While the likelihood of an asteroid impact on earth with consequences for life on the planet is lucky not high, there have been some relative near misses in the last milleniums, and a future collision could prove devastating for the human race. There are thousands of near-Earth objects circulating in space. Up to date the cataloging efforts worldwide only track a fraction of these dangerous objetcs.
